Cap Corse: Stones, Winds and Living Memory
🏛️ An Immersion into the Architecture and Soul of Cap Corse Beyond modern comfort, Latu Corsu Guesthouse (Côté Corse) offers a true immersion into the traditional architecture of Cap Corse. Faithful to local customs, it embraces a simple, functional aesthetic, perfectly integrated into its surroundings.
Inspired by Cap Corse villages, the layout of the guesthouse reflects the dense and organic structure of family homes, connected by narrow alleys, stone stairways, and vaulted passages. This design fosters intimacy, tranquility, and harmony with the environment.
Built from local schist stone, the house continues the ancient craftsmanship while adapting to the island's climate:
- small openings
- independent outdoor staircases
- natural orientation to capture light and protect from the wind
The Genoese influence is clearly visible in the volumes, roofs, and materials — a distinct feature of Cap Corse's Mediterranean heritage.
For history lovers: a Genoese tower adjoins one of the studios, bearing witness to the region's defensive past, when such towers guarded the coast from invaders. A place filled with soul, memory, landscape, and hospitality.
🌺 A Living Heritage at the Heart of the Cape Cap Corse is an ancient and preserved land, where history is visible at every turn. Genoese towers, Romanesque chapels, and ""American houses"" (built by Corsicans returning from Venezuela or Argentina) dot the villages, telling a unique collective story.
⚓️ A Maritime Culture Rooted in Daily Life Cap Corse is also a land of sailors. In small ports like Tollare, Centuri, or Macinaggio, traditional fishing continues:
- lobsters
- sea urchins
- rockfish
These are still caught using ancestral techniques passed down from father to son. Some shipyards still maintain handcrafted boatbuilding.
🌿 A Powerful and Protected Natural Environment Part of the Cap Corse and Agriates Marine Natural Park, the area offers:
- exceptional flora: immortelle, juniper, wild orchids, fragrant maquis
- rich marine life: dolphins, migratory birds, turtles
- Natura 2000 protected zones, where biodiversity is fully respected
Here, the light, the scent of the maquis, the wind, the silence… everything evokes the sensory essence of Corsica.
🍇 A Land of Taste and Terroir Cap Corse is also a renowned wine region, offering:
- Muscat du Cap Corse (AOC) – a sweet, fragrant dessert wine
- lively, saline white wines, shaped by sea breezes
- a growing number of organic and sustainable vineyards
You'll also find local producers of:
- honey
- olive oil
- cheeses
- Corsican charcuterie
So many flavors to discover… and share.
🌅 A True, Gentle and Human Corsica To experience Cap Corse is to adopt a slower, softer rhythm, where one takes time to watch the sea, listen to the birds, and connect with people.
This is also what we offer at Latu Corsu Guesthouse: a stay that is simple yet meaningful, rooted in a strong culture, powerful nature, and a sincere way of life.
