🏡 Poghju, a hamlet of Cap Corse

Perched on a sunny slope of Ersa, the hamlet of Poghju is one of the ten traditional villages of the commune.
Facing southeast, it enjoys a soft and generous light from sunrise.

Like throughout Cap Corse, its inhabitants were long sailor-farmers: part of the year devoted to the sea, the other to the land.

⚓ Land and sea

Small boats once connected Cap Corse to the coasts of Provence, Liguria and Tuscany.
They carried wine, oil, wood, citrons and cork oak bark, and returned with utensils, foodstuffs and building materials.
Some even set out to fish for coral along the African coast, long before 1830.

👩‍👧 Women in the village

Meanwhile, women stayed in the village, caretakers of the home, raising children and preserving family traditions.

🌿 From a lively village to a preserved hamlet

In the 19th century, Poghju had more than a hundred inhabitants.
Today, only about ten live there year-round, but in summer the village regains its vitality thanks to restored houses and the welcome of visitors.

Strolling through its alleys is like traveling back in time: every stone, every terrace tells a story of life shared between land and sea.
Quiet in the off-season, the hamlet comes alive in summer with voices, laughter and conviviality, offering a warm and authentic atmosphere.

🏰 The Potentini House

At the heart of this setting stands the Potentini House, once home to notable sailors and landowners, richly furnished and a symbol of local know-how.

After years of abandonment, it has been fully renovated and now hosts our guest rooms and holiday rentals.
Here, you will find modern comfort combined with the emotion of a place steeped in memory and history.

✨ A stay between past and present

Staying at the Potentini House means enjoying the authenticity of Cap Corse, living at the rhythm of a preserved village, and sharing in a heritage passed down through generations.
Here, between ancient stones and Corsican hospitality, every stay becomes a unique experience where past and present harmoniously meet.
